Concave Fantasy Cut Ametrine,8.81ct.,16mm x 12.0mm x 7.5mm

Description

A beautiful fantasy cut cushion emerald ametrine. Called a fantasy cut but, is really faceted using a concave faceting machine. Instead of the usual flat facets, concave faceting utilizes curved facets and produces a spectacular gemstone. This is a commercial cut gem of unknown origin that is cut and polished fairly well. As is typical with commercial cut gems, the keel isn't perfectly polished and you can only see the flaws with magnification.    Ametrine is only found in Bolivia and production seems to be off and on as the years go by. There will be a time when the source runs out. This is a very bright and lively gemstone with a mirror like polish and precision meet points.
There are sellers who call any bi-color quartz ametrine. Truth is, ametrine only comes in one color combination, amethyst and citrine. You will see different color combinations being passed off as ametrine. These are actually laboratory grown materials being marketed by the manufacturer as Cristanite. You can bet anything other than purple and yellow is man made. You can find bi-color amethyst and citrine in nature. However, these will generally only be with a colorless second color. Also be wary of any ametrine that is dark in color as there are man made ametrine materials being produced. Natural ametrine is only available in light to medium saturation. Only buy from a reputable dealer if you want to be sure you're getting the real thing.
