Description
Prior to the 18th century, households in Europe often kept whiskey in a family barrel. The whiskey was enjoyed straight out of the barrel or was poured, as needed, into a glass bottle by the “bottler” or more colloquially, the “butler”. As each bottle of whiskey was enjoyed, a new bottle was poured into the barrel. Over time the family’s whiskey aged and blended to become a unique reflection of the family. As the family matured, so did the whiskey.Solera was a method of aging spirits that originated in Spain during the 19th century. Conceptually, the Solera method is not unlike the family whiskey barrel, in that spirits of differing age are blended. However, Solera aging employs multiple barrels to ensure flavor and aroma consistency over time. Consistency is especially important for commercial applications, but it also ensures that a special “house” whiskey can be passed on through the generations.
Solera barrels are handcrafted from American White Oak . . . the same wood used to age renowned Napa Valley wines, Kentucky bourbons, and single malt scotch! We give our barrels number 3 char, which is popular because it yields delicately balanced flavor and beautiful golden color. All of of our barrels are unvarnished to allow for proper aging by allowing the spirit to "breathe". Each Solera barrel comes with an informational packet that explains the aging process in further detail. We also include a stainless steel funnel, spigot, bung, and stand.
We trust that your Solera Barrel will provide you with years of enjoyment.
Please note that your custom name/logo can be laser printed onto the front of your barrel for a nominal fee. Also, please inquire about bulk discounts.
